I went down to Portland this weekend for a Trailblazer game, and while I was down there I took several photos... Around 150 to be exact. I took photos in Portland, Gresham, Vancouver and Longview. The graffiti Gods were looking down on me, LOL. Give me a day or two to get all the photos online. Check out the Flickr page!
Recently this gangs graffiti has been showing up in Yakima. About a dozen or so of their tags have popped up around SouthEast Yakima.
Known as "Wetback Power" or "Doble Gang"-- short for the Spanish doble-u or letter "W", originated in Phoenix, Arizona around the year 1986 in the Garfield neighborhood. The original members were Mexican Nationals who organized to protect its members from the Phoenix area Chicanos who didn't like the way they spoke, dressed, or the idea that immigrants might be taking jobs away from those Hispanics born in the United States.
By the mid-1990's, various cliques of WBP had spread all over the Phoenix Valley. Some of the more well known are 8th Street, 21st Street and 31st Street. In 2003 the National Drug Threat Assessment reports that Wetback Power actively distributes cocaine and marijuana.
Below are two photos of their graffiti I have found. The top one is from Yakima, the bottom one was found in South Everett.
It's been awhile since I've done a update on my blog so here is a quick rundown of some things.
On March 19th I'm traveling to Portland, and while I'm down there I will be looking for gang graffiti. So if you know any spots for me to check out, hit me up on the email.
Web Stats! I'm able to track where my web viewers are located at and 65% are from Washington State, a lot from Seattle, and Yakima/Tri-Cities. 10% are from Idaho, 8% from California, 6% from Oregon and the remaining 11% from other areas of the USA. I was able to track one viewer to Tel Aviv, Israel. So Northwest Gangs is now International, LOL!
I'm following up on a gang death that appears to be a case of suicide. His name will go up on the website soon. There has been a handful of gang shootings around the region, but none fatal...
That's it for now, I'll keep this updated as things go down!
